Garden Celebration

On Friday afternoon, students, staff and special guests attended an assembly to thank everyone that was involved in the rejuvenation of our school garden.  The celebration was complete with cake for all!  A sincere thanks to anyone who is involved in the garden.

Sports Day

The weather managed to co-operate and the rain held off for the most part.  There were many shivering bodies and goose-bumps, but all in all, another successful day.  It always amazes me how time flies by.  Special events like this mark another year gone by.  I used to enjoy that feeling, but now as I age, I feel like perhaps it's not such a great thing!!  Thanks to all that came out to support the children, and to those that didn't, here are a few pictures to enjoy.

Honouring the Child

The author of Honouring the Child, Pam Proctor, was one of the original teachers and creators of the program at Dickens Annex.  I have been in touch with this inspiring woman for several years and have learned so much from her.  I urge you to have a look at this book which outlines Pam's journey from very traditional teaching to a program of active, child-centered learning like we know and love at the annex.  I have a copy if you are interested in borrowing it.

I.S.S. (Is Somebody Singing)

This morning we gathered in front of the smart board with hopes of joining the live webcast of Commander Hadfield in the International Space Station singing Is Somebody Singing.  This song was written by Astronaut Chris Hadfield and Barenaked Ladies frontman Ed Robertson.  They collaborated between earth and space to co-write the official song for Music Monday 2013.  Unfortunately, our link wouldn't open for the song, but we did manage to use one of our new ipads (thanks to PAC) to catch a few questions that students across Canada had for Commander Hadfield.  See the link below for more information.  It was so inspiring!

My Sisters

I just wanted to send out a personal thanks to all of the support I have recieved for my sisters.  They both are doing very, very well.  Many of the kids wrote cards which I brought to the hospital for both sisters.  They were so pleased with them.  They may even visit us!
